Color saturation was good, considering that the image was relatively dim. One good point was that there was virtually no trace of tints in most of the white test backgrounds, although there was some fringing (green or purple) at the borders between bright and dark areas. I would advise you to use large type for text presentations with this projector. There were traces of red and green fill in the white letters at the smaller sizes. White text on black and black text on white were both blurred at the two smallest sizes, and blurred (but readable) at the third smallest. Its main drawback was that text quality wasn't very good. In data-image testing using the DisplayMate (Opens in a new window) suite, the S1's image quality was passable, though not impressive. The introduction of ambient light caused degradation in some of the images, and a couple of them were notably faded, even in darkness. That gives it a somewhat shorter throw than typical data projectors. The S1 projected a 55-inch (diagonal) image to fill our test screen from about 5.5 feet away from the screen. You may not need to bring the adapter with you, as the S1 has a built-in rechargeable battery that can project for up to 3 hours, and can also charge a mobile device that has a USB micro-B port. The weight goes up to 1.1 pounds when you add the power adapter. The projector measures 1.3 by 4.3 by 4 inches (HWD) and weighs just 0.8 pounds. On top are cut-out metal buttons for controlling audio volume, changing settings, and accessing a data source. This is a handsome device, square with rounded corners and clad in aluminum with an etched concentric-circle design. Its LED light source is rated to last for up to 30,000 hours, effectively the lifetime of the projector. It has native WXGA (854-by-480) resolution, which is very nearly a 16:9 aspect ratio. The S1 is DLP-based (using a DLP Pico chip) and rated at 200 lumens of brightness. It has decent video and data-image quality, though it had trouble displaying small type in our testing. Its brightness and resolution are low for a palmtop-sized projector-its specs are more typical of smaller pico (aka pocket) projectors.
